About Mary McMinn

Living in central Pennsylvania, Mary is an honors graduate
of Bucknell University in fine arts. She learned
lampworking through classes at the Corning Glass Studio beginning in 1996 and left her job in the legal profession in
February, 2000 to devote her time to her glass art. She
exhibits at fine arts and crafts shows throughout the
Northeast and has been featured in Lapidary Journal’s
Step By Step Beads magazine.

The technique used by Mary is called lampworking or
flameworking, an ancient technique where glass is melted
over a flame and formed into a bead. Mary uses an
oxygen-propane torch and winds the molten glass around
a steel rod. Each bead is then formed into a bead which
is annealed in a kiln at approximately 950 degrees.
